Rugby in the Costa Blanca
One of the great advantages of living in the Costa Blanca for sports lovers, you will not be disappointed by the comprehensive variety of sport played in each of the towns and villages. Many of whom have sports facilities that will at least match that of any town or village in the rest of Europe of similar size.
The headline sports here are Football, Cycling, Tennis, Golf Basketball and Skiing. If you look deeper you will find almost all the sports that many of you from rest of Europe would normally participate in or watch.
One of those is Rugby, much to my delight after spending 40 years playing it myself as a good looking prop.
After photographing Real Estate properties all week, it is enjoyable taking a break and photographing various sports as rest and recuperation so to speak. So as you can imagine my delight to find I have a local Rugby Club only 10 minutes from where I live in Denia.
Denia RFC play in a stadium with a great floodlit pitch. One of the downsides is there is no clubhouse attached to the stadium, you have to travel a short distance after the game to a local bar/restaurant.
They play in a league against clubs stretching from Alicante to Valencia with the games being played at different times either on a Saturday or Sunday.
On Saturday 17th November 2018, Denia RFC hosted a league game against Aka Barbara RFC from Alicante with KO at 5pm, which from my perspective it was getting late for photographing due to poor light and then floodlights.
This was a hard fought battle with Denia getting the early advantage with a couple of tries to put Aka Barbara on the back foot. It looked like Denia would run away with the game but Aka Barbara had different ideas and refused to give up and stuck at a it and benefited from several tries to keep the game alive. Denia settles it with a late try and a penalty to put the game out of reach 32 -19.
